One of the best ways to find your style...
🎨One of the best ways to find your style, your flavour of marks or message...
Is to EXPERIMENT.
That freedom to just try new things, new ways, alternative perspective. Without fear of failure, since an experiment is only seeking feedback.
And a sketchbook is where you can do that.
Confession: I hadn’t kept one in YEARS. I have a journal and I write all my mindset, morning pages and to do lists in there. But a sketch book, or a visual diary...I use to keep for art school.
But now I’m out of the habit.
Why? (See if this also feels familiar)
“Too busy...all art making is for my biz!”
“No time for playing. Have to make ‘ART’ “
“I don’t have the brain space for YET ANOTHER THING to work on”
But I’ve noticed a snag that keeps coming up.
Where is the fire Brenda?
Where is the joy? Where is the ‘I’m so inspired & creative’ feeling?
Where is the confidence to just make your mark?
Where is the next level of this conversation your work is heading?
I can’t find the answers when I’m inside the forest. I can’t think my way to the answers.
I know it’s the lack of play
I know it’s the lack of pushing boundaries & finding new layers of freedom.
So long story short, I’m restarting a new habit. Keeping a sketchbook next to me when I’m painting. With the intention to play & experiment & make messes in. (Basically push further than I have and find ‘failure’) And like all new habits, It’s clumsy & feels awkward. It’s clunky & uncomfortable.
Do me a favour? Share with me your new awkward habit? So I don’t feel so alone!
Something you’re setting the intention for but isn’t quite flowing yet? We can encourage each other this year!
Or comment with your favourite heart emoji to give me a boost on this new change!
