You don't have a time problem, you have a commitment problem

This week, let's look at the C word.

This is the word that has made ALL the difference in whether I am prolific, productive or BEING the Artist & Muse (& Mama & Wife & Friend) I want to be

This is the word that helps me show up when I'm not 'feeling it'

This is the word that feels counter-intuitive to my natural rebel self & all the ways my Resistance wants me to fight for freedom

This is also the word that has helped me find my voice, find MORE freedom & MORE creative flow

Let’s look into what motivates you to stay COMMITTED!

What pushes you to get out of bed every morning?

What helps you wake up and be ready for the day ahead?

What keeps you on track to be professional, passionate and creative?

Staying committed comes from doing what you LOVE and having a drive to move with your creative flow.

It’s something you DECIDE in a moment. AND it is also something you get to choose moment to moment, day to day of staying committed to the decision you made.

So, because having a commitment to your creative flow can be so important, you might be thinking “How do I maintain a passion for my art? My creativity?”

I like to say

“Finding a spark of joy can be the easiest way back to motivation, productivity, inspiration & hopefulness”

Being committed to your creative flow means maintaining activities in your life that allow a comfortable rhythm and routine.

Of finding that spark AND of taking action on what that sparked within you

A few ways to make sure you have a commitment to your creative flow can look like:

  1. Finding creative sparks: doing things that are different, out of your comfort zone or that you aren't used to. This helps you to look at usual routine tasks in a unique way, it also allows space for something I like to call “happy accidents”.

Are you making space for “mistakes” to happen so you see a new way forward? This is actually where you find your own style, process & voice. Where innovations & finding your unique flavour can happen

Are you cultivating your creative spark in your everyday?

  2. Make space for spontaneity: this can mean having intentional moments of boredom throughout the day…. Yep, intentional boredom!

Daydreaming. sitting in the void of discomfort & tension while trusting the process that inspiration and answers will come.
This makes space for you to listen to your Muse. Listen to God. Listen to your soul voice.

This space makes room for inspired flow to come in as well as the ebbs & natural pauses that creativity needs

Are you making space for your creativity to flow & ebb?

  3. Uplevelling: Trying not to get stuck in a rut, so, doing new things helps you connect ideas in new ways. It's similar to creative spark in that you get to use new ways of seeing to spark new ideas.

Which invites more flow of creative ideas. But this is also about going deeper.

Getting better skilled or diving beyond the shallow depths & seeing the treasures and wisdom beneath.

It's having a deeper conversation rather than a 'pass by the hallway to say hello' kind of difference.

Are you allowing your art to grow? Are you connecting to your work in a deeper way?

All of these things will work together to help you COMMIT to your creative flow and while they are awesome first steps to establishing your passion and commitment, let’s not forget the basics.

To stay committed you need discipline within yourself; giving your art the time & space to mature and show itself is so important, otherwise you’re just simply skimming the surface and jumping from style to style or project to project and never having any deeper conversations with the art.

Making sure you have a combination of discipline as well as creative sparks and spontaneity will quickly reveal that you can be the master of commitment to your own creative flow.
