a 4 module course to help you go from creatively frustrated & lost to cultivating a creative & mindfulness practice with a simple pen & paper

  • You keep waiting and making plans and saving posts & pinterest boards full of nall the creative & beautiful art you want to be making. But they feel hard and full of tools supplies and skills you just don’t have.

  • You think that maybe, if you wait until you have a weekend away. But there is never enough time

  • Going to a once off workshop is great for that day…but how do you keep that creativity flow EVERY day? Without needing all the supplies & space & tools that the workshop provided?

  • Also, how do you make art that holds deeper meaning FOR YOU? That looks & feels like it’s YOUR creative work. Instead of recreating a sad echo, copying the work of another artist.

  • We make it hard, we make it complicated, we think that these things makes the art more ‘worthy’ or ‘better’. When it’s the simple things, in partnership with mindfulness, that makes the kind of art with deeper meaning

  • I started & launched into my professional art career using a simple process with pen & paper. Not my drawing skills, not my designer experience, not even my fancy & expensive painting supplies.

  • I also know that it’s the simple steps that allows you to find a way to create & make art DAILY as part of your everyday life. Even if it’s only for 5-10minutes.

Where Deliberate Doodles came from:
My Story

  • I always felt creativity flowing through me, but doing ‘arty’ things was ‘too time consuming’. I wanted to paint! But it felt too scary, complicated and I was NOT confident in my painting practice. (I didn’t have one!)

  • I wanted to express myself and I wanted to allow myself to create. I wanted to get lost in my creativity and create art that others can get lost in too. In a good way. But it all felt too hard and complicated. 

I felt so frustrated at all this yearning but still not doing anything with the creative nudges.

  • It’s what I now call being creatively constipated! It’s not the best feeling in the world!

  • I thought if I waited & retreated & focused super hard on trying to understand and CONTROL ALL THE STEPS with painting. That it had to be fancy. That complex meant it was ‘more worthy’

Now I know that confidence & clarity in all the complicated steps only comes AFTER TAKING THE SIMPLE FIRST STEP

  • Today I know what it feels like to be in creative flow. It isn’t in the fancy & complex. It’s actually in the ability to show up & sometimes that means simple steps to ease my way there.

  • I know that my creative flow IS self-care for me and just as important as eating well in showing up as the mama & leader I am. For my family, for my clients, for my soul.

 

I see clearly now that my painting journey began BEFORE I put paint on canvas.

It began with my doodles

  • By going back to my childhood practice of distraction doodles, I explored & elevated it into an artform for my creative expression — without the pressure of complicated art supplies & complex systems that my painting requires.

  • Using the simplicity of pen & paper allowed me to build up my confidence in my creative flow. It allowed me to connect with my creativity to take the steps to build up the complex & fancy practice for my painting.

My Mindful Mantra process is a culmination of my years as a professional designer and artist

  • I streamlined the process down into simple steps — while still being infused with all the creativity and meaning that we ALL desire for a joyful & fulfilled life.

  • As a mama of 2 young kids, working from home with a busy lifestyle, I know how hard it is to find time AND space in-between your responsibilities for home, kids AND work to connect with your inner Muse

  • I know how to make the practice something simple you can incorporate around your busy life. So that you can face your inner critic & made it easy to overcome your Resistance.

WEEK ONE - MINDFUL MATTERS

  • Set your intentions for the course & Explore your mindfulness & creative practice (and how we are ALL creative!)

  • How to connect who you are, all the things that are meaningful to you into your creativity and art that you make

  • Tools that you will need to begin your Deliberate Doodles journey

  • Mark-making exercises (including the post-it note one!) to find your doodling voice

WEEK TWO - MANTRAS, MOTTOS & MEANING

  • Explore the power of words and all the ways it shows up in our life

  • Exercises and ideas on how to find and curate an endless supply of words to use for your Deliberate Doodles

  • Worksheets and templates to use to begin your first drawings - including how to make your own compositions

  • How to add meaning (like secret messages!) to your doodle drawing with symbols, design & words

WEEK THREE - MESSY MIDDLE

  • How to set up your creative practice for consistent & thriving success even amongst your busy life & work schedule

  • The cycle of creativity and how to overcome resistance that will come up during the drawing process

  • Ways to get back into flow and jump back into the bandwagon if life throws your practice off

WEEK FOUR - MOVING MOUNTAINS

  • Explore how to make this practice into a movement for your life AND the way you serve the world

  • How to incorporate mindfulness & creativity that you've learnt into a joyful & beautiful life

  • How to finish off your drawing and release it, exploring what you've learnt and restarting the cycle again. (It's harder that it looks!)

IS THIS A LIVE COURSE?

This is course with pre-recorded trainings that sometimes has live rounds — meaning, the course content is available immediately for you to learn from. When there is a live round happening, it means that I (Brenda!) will be there live inside the community going through each module with you.

This isn’t like school with set deadlines or exams & specific timetables. Some students may be a little ahead. Some will be a little slower to match their lifestyle. With lifetime access, there is NO deadline! WE ALL GO AT OUR OWN PACE!

During a live round — I will be available in the Facebook group for support & answer any questions

HOW LONG DO I HAVE ACCESS TO THE COURSE CONTENT - VIDEOS, WORKSHEETS?

You have lifetime access (for as long as this course exists), so that means you can take your time to go through the content. Each module is ready for immediate access, you can binge watch it all or access them one by one whenever you like.

So you can go through all of it again a few months down the track if you want to refresh your learning.
You can also go through the LIVE rounds again if and when I run them.

Same with the facebook group. (For as long as I have control of the platform & as long as this course is capable of being run online!)

It also means you have access to any updates, resources, worksheets or templates I add in the future!

DO I NEED TO JOIN LIVE? 

You can join in AT ANY TIME. A LIVE round is great to be part of because I will be going through the modules with you all together as a community! You get my personal attention just like a group coaching experience without the higher investment.

Once you're an alum you are VERY WELCOME to join in the next LIVE round (FOR FREE!) for a refresh of the exercises and to deepen your creative practice. Even if the price goes up -- you already have lifetime access!

But no, you don't have to. I get that life can be busy and you have other plans. With lifetime access, you can go at your own pace and catch up when you it suits you!

And you can even come back and do the whole course again later if you want to revisit the practice with a proper structure. 

I will always come into the private Facebook Group to check in with you if you have any questions. Not to mention the group of alum will be super helpful for your doodling & creative journey!

WHAT IF I HAVEN'T FINISHED THE CHALLENGE WORK?

That's totally fine! It's not a pre-requisite AND it's actually a sign that you need to enrol & do the deeper work we will learn together in the workshop. Don't let that be a distraction to going deeper into your creative practice! Don't let that be an excuse to stay in the shallow end of this work.

WHAT TOOLS WILL I NEED?

You'll just need a pen, paper & a journal. Some post-it notes will be good too! Access to decent internet to watch the videos and download the worksheets. A smart phone or ability to take simple photos of your work to share in the Facebook group and the commitment to do the exercises will help you get the most out of this course.

Adobe Reader or equivalent to open the PDF worksheets I will have for you.
