Starting a new collection -- embracing your flaws and imperfections
IMG_5919_low.jpg

The themes for my new collection have been swirling... & slowly solidifying

The idea of the Japanese art of Kintsugi

(from wikipedia)
Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

These ideas of almost 'celebrating' brokenness. To embrace the mess & broken parts of ourselves and the process has always been a running thread in my art. That it’s part of the ongoing story and unfolding journey of life (& the artwork)

4ee82432416820d09bf0b74fc4ce32d6.jpeg

For me, it is also about the idea that it is IN THE GAP and allowing that 'not enoughness' to make room for divinity.

To make space for God to show up and bridge the gap between how far we can go in our limited humaness & let God and magic and miracles to do the rest.

Allowing magic in!

Like... Is it really about brokenness -- my faith is also about 'being made new' or being 'renewed' -- is one better than the other?

Is it about getting better with age? Like the appeal of old weathered houses and interiors where it feels like there is more character in all the wrinkles, texture and layers of history in their bones?

There is also something there about scars, letting it be a visible reminder of lessons learnt and experiences you had the priviledge of going through.

Which leads me to remembering those ancient tribes that does ritualistic scaring on their male warriors for every battle they have gone through.

And the mark of celebration and status is on the MOST scared man amongst their village

I'm sure there will be more swirling and unraveling as I keep painting.

HERE IS WHAT I KNOW ABOUT SACRED SPACES

IMG_6022.JPG

It’s not the gold gilded decorations.

It’s not the giant arches & stained glass paintings of angels and prophets

It’s not even the cavernous, sun-filled space of sweeping views

Or sublime melodies

Or whispered halls of history

Or expensive tapestries & technology

A sacred space is sacred because of the heart of those who enter it

It may be small. It may be messy.

It may be humbling & uncomfortable & the din is suffocating

You can still create a sacred space

Put aside the ego of achievement & productivity

Drop the arrogance that requires “feeling worthy”

Remove all lies about perfectionism guarantees success

or that success means zero pain or discomfort

Forgive & surrender the sins that clutter & block divine connection

Bring an open heart to break & heal & serve

Bring a willing spirit to faithfully keep moving forward towards the vision

Bring a clear mind, free from fears, distractions & lies of Resistance

Then you sit there, waiting with grateful expectation

You listen for the inspired song to sing

You patiently surrender as you commune with Spirit & soul

You hold the boundaries that the fear chatter will inevitably try to invade

and then you step back from that holy space & do the work for today

Create. Write. Speak. Call out. Design. Teach. Whatever you have been called to express

Knowing that you will go back to that sacred space tomorrow for tomorrow’s work

It can be as simple & sublime as that

SOME LESSONS LEARNT FROM ART MAKING
IMG_2974.JPG

SOME LESSONS LEARNT FROM ART MAKING

(which always applies to life #artaslifeasart)

>>> The process is as much a reward as the final destination.

In fact, if you can find joy in the process regardless of outcome, you never really ‘suffer’ for your art.

>>> It’s all about perspective.

With a tweak of an angle, a flick of the wrist, a tiny smudge or a drop more of pink... can change the whole tone & feel of the whole thing.

Same with life.

Same with how you see your art.

Choose to see the ‘mistakes’ as lessons you had to make so you GET to either not do it again...or find a way to make it more to your liking.

Again, same with life.

This is more than seeing the silver lining, and more about seeing the beauty in the mess.

It’s about how much richer that you’re weaving so much depth into the tapestry you get to call your life.

>>> Discipline brings freedom.

Discipline is all about choosing your art over your human weaknesses. Choosing your calling over your fear.

Choosing who you are BECOMING (& always meant to be) over who you were under all those layers of baggage and fears.

And discipline makes it easier to form habits, so then it’s WAY less effort.

Then flow comes...because it becomes part of who you are... then you are FREE!

Free to make regardless of motivation

Free to market your art regardless of rejection

Free to keep making regardless of that last horrible painting you just did

>>> You don’t choose the art you make, you may choose your attitude, your aspirations & your actions.

But the true art you are called to make?

It chooses you.

If you embrace it, stay curious, be open and commit to deepening your relationship to it?

You’ll find your voice.

You’ll find your message.

You’ll find the work that was meant FOR you

>>> Your job as an artist is to make sure the art calling you get brought to life.

Which means it’s your job to ensure you have the resources needed to do that. Whether it’s getting

enough sleep

learning marketing & sales to get money for supplies or

diving deep into your soul to connect to the heart & soul of the art AND learning how to articulate that?

If you can see that it’s your role as the artist to do this?

You can find it easier to overcome your fears & excuses around

selling your art,

procrastinating,

learning new skills or

just scheduling in self-care with other roles in your life.

>>> Community & Connection matters.

Relationships will be the heart of your success. To finding your answers or opening of doors.

It will be the seed for your blossoming. Both relationships with your family & friends and clients & colleagues AND with your creativity & your spirituality.

It will be the anchor to hold you amongst the chaos.

Find your people who are willing to see the you beyond your present. Beyond your fears and limits.

Your fellow Muses who will lift you up. (Join MINDFUL MUSES to find your community of creatives like you desiring connection with our inner Muses!)

They will inspire you to keep going.

They have been where you wish to go.

They will cheer you on even as you ‘surpass’ them.

Comment below the lesson you resonate with most! And emoji me all the hearts especially since you’re here, we are each other’s people.

DEAR FUTURE SELF…
IMG_2693.jpeg

DEAR FUTURE SELF:

I know you're feeling busy & overwhelmed BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR THE HEALTH OF YOUR ART

Get back into the sketchbook for more play & experiments. It helps you rebuild trust in the process & release that pressure of perfection you picked up again.

> Building trust in yourself

> Building faith in the process, despite the chaos

> Faith that answers & resources will be provided as needed

> Trust that you will be capable to do what is needed

AND PLAY!

To release pressure

To allow joy

To release burdens of perfection

To allow curiosity

To release fear

To allow fun...for the sake of fun

and trust that there IS purpose in that too

Connect back to your curiosity & joy!

Release the shoulds & musts for some playful what ifs & why nots

How?

1) Give yourself a daily dose of connecting with your Muse purely for the fun of connecting. To embrace imperfection & the chaos of life

> In a way that is simple & easy (so there is no excuses NOT to do it & you don't get overwhelmed)

> In a way that pushes you beyond your usual routine (so you expand your comfort zone & exercise your creative muscles)

> In a way that supports you to pause & notice connections & ideas around you (so you see the abundance of resources & inspiration you already have)

eg. Like sketchbook doodling....or taking a photo a day, to a theme or as a gratitude exercise...

2) Give yourself the mindset & space to cultivate the above into a daily habit & way of life.

> In a way that weaves in your busy schedule & life duties (so you learn how to find YOUR flavour of creative living)

> In a way that uses resources & tools you already have around you (so you see your life & world in new creative ways)

> In a way that practices facing your fears & doubts & patterns of sabotage (so you gain more confidence & clarity around how you can rise above your Resistance & do the work you are called to do in the world)

eg. Like writing a haiku everyday about your day in your journal... or do a meditation where you face your fears & do a sketch portrait of your fear monster...

p.s You're doing amazing. Even while in lockdown -- you're an amazing Muse Mama

The Cultivate Courage Collection is coming along...

The new collection coming along...

some paintings are being a bit more stubborn & elusive than others!

IMG_2681.jpeg

Inspired by the energy & feelings we felt as a global collective last year — we were really challenged to cultivate our courage in the face of tremendous change

On a personal front, the conflicting emotions of change (thanks to moving house, renovations & lockdown experiences) + the daily delights of life with young children — became my personal journey of courage to keep growing through grief & hope.

I was challenged to continue cultivating courage to keep growing beyond my edges.

To keep coming back despite set backs. To keep seeking & find my way “home” away from home

There will be Soul Seeds like the image above.

There will be a few signature paintings in the smaller size.

(I won't be doing any larger paintings until I can move into my studio later this year!)

The thread of my signature doodles feature for the first time in my paintings

If you've been around here a while, you may remember that I started my art career offering drawings around words & mantras that hold deep meaning for me. Using my design skills & lettering talents for fine art prints of Deliberate Doodle drawing artwork.

It’s that sense of coming full circle to my first art offerings, that sense of comfort in the familiar while navigating a whole new way of being & expression.

Moving in with my parents while we build our dream home has echoed that energy of 'coming home' but also being very much OUTSIDE our normal.

Navigating lockdown also stripped away many habits and ways of living back to basics.

Fighting for what felt familiar and navigating a whole new way of doing it.

Where old becomes new and normal changes constantly.

The spiral continues to feature boldly as a totem call to keep moving forward.

It stands strong to hold you through the storms.

It stands boldly when you’re tempted to hide.

I’m aiming for an early March release depending on how well we settle into a new routine #mumlife

10 Ways I Waste My Creativity
IMG_2376.JPG

Having to be constantly #adulting can be super draining. Having to do mundane tasks with a mundane mindset and always thinking practically… there's nothing more boring than THAT!

As a mama, I often look at my babies and think “I wish I had the fun and carefree life that you do” but then I have to stop and realise - well actually I CAN have that life through my creativity.

Who says that as adults we cannot be creative and find the creative flow & fun in anything and everything that we do!

Looking at my kids with a twinkle in their eye when they’re using those powerful little brains of theirs to build a cubby house or paint a picture (just like their mama) or even read a book, has really opened my eyes to a new perspective.

The creativity of children is so encouraged with everything they do, not only to allow them to find fun in everyday life but to build skills, learn and grow.

As an artist this concept has really pushed me to take on that mindset and cultivate the courage to find the same passion for creativity that my little ones have everywhere I go.

It’s time to bring back that inner child MUSES!

I like to say “DO THE THINGS you're feeling called to do, and do them with JOY”

And sometimes that means DARING to look at what you do creatively, through a whole different lens.

My challenge to YOU who is stuck in an endless loop of being a ‘practical adult’,

  1. Who is constantly thinking by the book

  2. Who is always following the rules

  3. Who may not have the courage to get messy

  4. Who may have forgotten the fun of their craft

To take a NEW approach to your art

Sometimes it’s so much better to not overthink and, instead, just DO - creativity is found in the strangest places and sometimes looking for it can only make it harder to find. The Muse can be cheeky & fickle like that!

So I dare you to ask your kids, younger nieces or nephews or a child that you know - how they would approach a task in front of them. You’ll find that they barely think about their answer and rather just do whatever they want to do to GET IT DONE.

They are not afraid of the ‘right way’ or the ‘proper way’. They definitely don’t concern themselves with ‘the way it’s meant to’

Curiosity & the courage to DARE take the next step forward despite the unknown? They have that is spades.

We need to cultivate this too.

So, if you need a sign this week to stop following “the rules” mindlessly and just let your inner Muse run wild…

THIS IS YOUR SIGN.

  • Have the courage to let your hair down

  • Be brave enough to throw out the “rule book” of what you think is the ‘correct way’ — they are all made up anyway!

  • Dare to look at your creativity in a different light

  • Allow your imagination to run wild

  • Bring back that twinkle in your eye and that passion for your art, it’s time to fall back in love with what you were put on this earth to do - CREATE!

REMEMBER!

Your creativity is always flowing! YOU get to CHOOSE where you want to direct that creative energy

Here are 10 ways I have wasted my creativity — I share this with the intention that you see how much creative flow is already around you AND how small shifts in your perspective can empower you to bring that incredible resources towards what your inner Muse desires to create.

TEN WAYS I WASTE MY CREATIVITY

  1. Stressing about what to put in my daughter's lunchbox for school - instead of using my creativity joyfully or just you know, giving her the "boring" lunch SHE ACTUALLY EATS!

  2. Excuses on why I can't start that painting yet. Or finish that other painting.
Like 'my kids need me' or
'I'm not feeling it today' or
'I don't know how to start' or
'I'm not sure I have anything worth saying' or
'I need to do some research first' or
'Everyone keeps interrupting me - it's not the right time' or
'I can't see what the whole thing is about / I don't have clarity...'

Actually just any excuses in general about doing the thing I know deep down my soul wants done.

  3. Different ways to basically say
    - I'm not good enough,
    - I don't think I'm good enough or will do it perfectly enough
    - I'm scared everyone will reject me when I do it

but in a socially accepted way.
Like saying "I've been so busy" or "Who has the time nowadays?" or "I can't be bothered" or "It would be nice..."

  4. Thinking up new ways to do chores. Or new strategies, or learning new methods.
Anything that isn't just doing the things I need to do quickly and getting back to the work that matters

  5. Getting hung up on what so and so said or that person WILL say & thinking up retorts or comebacks.
    Beforehand or even days AFTER.

None of which matters or even remotely affects the other person!

  6. Regretting mistakes made in the past & wallowing in failure - then using my creative energies on wishing I could change it and what I would have done differently

This isn't the same as learning your lessons & thinking of ways to apply it for NEXT time. This is just simple wallowing

  7. Planning my marketing strategy, learning new ways to sell my work or just getting motivated about talking about my art -- instead of actually MAKING THE ACTUAL ART
There is creativity that is very useful in the business side, the editorial side, the OTHER side of the creative process.

The publishing, the marketing, the sales, the empire building.

It's why I enjoy having my own business & selling my work is a joyful choice I've made about my art
BUT at the expense of actually making the art?

    It's a waste.

  8. Creative elaborative plans of the new habit & routines & rituals around building up my motivation. About getting 'in the zone'.
New disciplines or challenges or quests to DO THE THING.
    - Like cleaning my whole house & detailed lists of what, where & how
    - Like checking all the different schedules of gyms & workout classes & visualising how I will do it...next week
    - Like drawing up a detailed list of my DAILY MUST DOs & redrawing it to find the PERFECT flow and balance of work & play & family schedules & chores & errands & ballet class & church time….

This feels the same as saying "tomorrow I will be better - I will get it all done perfectly if I make the perfect plan"
instead of just doing something tiny, something imperfectly TODAY

  9. Anytime I'm on Facebook or Instagram and going beyond getting inspired and into mindless scrolling and silently searching for the perfect kick in the pants 'inspiration' that will get me off the app into doing.

    You know how you think

"I'm just getting inspiration" or "There was something here about a topic I need"
or "I'm getting some down time to relax"
or "I'll only do this for a few minutes" << That is the wasted creativity.

Also, see the second point about excuses

  10. Following shiny new ideas - getting into flow - then getting more new ideas....
instead of actually finishing the previous project.

Or getting new ideas for other people & getting super excited for them.

Instead of using that creative energy to get over my Resistance, face my fears and DO THE WORK to release my art.

Do you relate?

Do you say to yourself that you're not creative or that you're 'not feeling inspired'?

What if you're actually leaking your creativity on things that aren't important?

What if you're actually wasting your creativity mindlessly?

What if you could easily choose to turn it around and find joyful purpose in your life?

I'm an artist - I know the creative process well and I also KNOW that your creative process also applies to all other areas of your life.

I ALSO know all the ways you may creatively avoid, face Resistance & procrastinate doing the things you deeply desire to do.

Because I AM THE SAME!

I was able to create the body of work I have because I didn't do it alone - I connected with masterminds & mentors who kept me anchored to the work I said I wanted to create.

They reminded me to drop my excuses & use my energy on what my art IS

Left to my own devises - I waste SO MUCH creative energy on the above excuses and old unhelpful habits

I was able to weave newborns & pre-school schedules & house chores AND still have a fun, thriving family while doing my art because I didn't do it alone - I connected with mentors whose energy kept me going when I wanted to quit.

Who kept me accountable, who reminded me I was capable and which story I wanted to tell myself

I practiced & failed & practiced again.

I worked out what my creative process needed. I played with finding ways to anchor myself back to creative flow.

I cultivated my Courage muscles to keep coming back despite failures & falling on my face.

Connecting with my creativity & treating it with patience as you do in relationships - while treating it with determined expectation, as you do with habits.

Part of the practice is to be honest with where discipline is needed - where am I allowing excuses & wasted energy to leak…

and where patience and kindness is needed because life is very full

Please know, I understand.

If I can do this, with all my flaws, my failures, my many many messes I’m still working on...I KNOW you can too.

You have no idea how many times I’ve prayed to be a special unicorn. So it could be easy.

But I’m always reminded, God is the magic, it’s my willingness to step into MY role as creative and Muse — that’s when the art, the life as art, gets made.

My job is to choose mindfully and direct my energy where I truly desire.

My intention for this space is to be shining a light for you by sharing my stories.

Let's talk about Creative Courage

There is so much courage involved when you allow room to grow & evolve as an Artist.

Really it’s allowing room to make mistakes & failures.

Courage is doing something UNIQUE and DIFFERENT

Courage is welcoming serendipity and happy mistakes

Courage is having the drive to find your own style, your own voice, your own process and your own innovation

IMG_2659.jpeg

All of these things together build you up to be the fearless, imperfect, beautiful artist that you were made to be!

The start of a new month means expanding focus to new and exciting concepts, which funnily enough shows courage in itself, that you may have once feared or avoided.

In February, you have no excuses to hide from failure, messiness and trying something new because that is what life is all about.

I have a challenge for you this month

As an artist, trying to balance life, family, career and children can take away from the structure that would usually form each day - so consequently a fear of accidents, mistakes, missing pieces and spontaneity can occur.

If this is how you are feeling -- remember that some of the BEST IDEAS are usually stumbled upon by accident - there was no formula, no order and no recipe, it was simply a happy accident.

The same thing occurs in your art if you have the courage to let it.

Exploring, being open minded and being in unknown circumstances all come from daring to step out of your comfort zone - this is my challenge to you.

This month - try a new way of doing something you do everyday, drive a different route to pick up the groceries, hold your paintbrush a different way, don’t start your art again - keep it going and see what happens.

The idea is to DARE to live in the IMPERFECTIONS!

It’s time to leave space for mistakes and failures because creative expression is the best vehicle for self evolution and growth!

The only way to really grow as not only an artist but as a creative human being is to have the courage to FAIL SOMETIMES!

So it’s time to be brave and embrace the messiness and spontaneity that comes with failures every once in a while. You never know where it could lead!

THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS

In traditional creative art forms like painting, writing, dancing or playing a musical instrument - every day you are faced with mistakes or failure here and there.

So why spend each and every day trying to avoid these inevitable aspects of being an artist?

EMBRACE THEM

Failure isn't a devastating sign that you should stop creating or that you suck, but rather, it's an opportunity to see a different point of view, an invitation to try something new.

If this message sounds like a sign to start switching it up, let me help you along the way!

Why don’t you schedule your free Creative Courage & Clarity call with me and let’s get started on your journey towards being the best artist you can be!

It’s time to embrace imperfections & make the art you’re being called to make

DARE to take your creative dreams seriously & take that next step TODAY!

I had one of those eureka ideas....and I was not happy
IMG_2158.jpeg

I had one of those bolt of lightning ideas to add my beloved doodles to my soul seeds.

And I was not happy. Not keen. Not sure.
Basically I didn’t wanna.

These two art forms (doodles & soul seeds) feel like the not so cool kids compared to my signature paintings & soulful watercolours.

But after a couple of days basically being haunted by the idea (the Muse can be insistent) — I relented on the condition that I can do it in bed while (semi) watching my shows.

I don’t know if it’s working yet but I wanted to share a REAL look behind the scenes

Also to remind you:

✔️Eureka ideas DO come — be open, willing & watch out for them.

They come more often the more you do

✔️The creative process is both a predictable cycle & a total mystery.

That’s actually why as Artists and Muses we have to be disciplined in our work with our creativity AND make space for random & miracles to happen.

To lead & be led.

✔️Even if you do heed the call of an inspired idea, there is ZERO guarantee it works out.

The Muse is not a genie answering wishes, she is not a wishing tree.

She can be fickle.
Sometimes she’s like a child whose goal is the process, the journey. Not the end result.

It’s both frustrating (as any mamas know when working with kids! We have a destination in mind dammit!)
+ also the key to magical innovation and finding YOUR special recipe to your art.

✔️If you build a strong relationship with your creativity — with your inner Muse.
You can totally negotiate with it to work around your fears, Resistance & doubts.

Like I did with working in bed.

My doubt is that it will ruin a painting that’s almost finished.

My fear is that I’m mixing the 2 styles in an attempt to “make them popular” which makes me 🤮

My Resistance is this is going to take freaking ages, hurt my hand AND have no guarantee it will be worth it!

TELL ME: Have you had one of those “random” ideas pop into your head? What happened? Did it work out? What did you learn?

Want to build a deeper relationship with your creativity? Join us in the MINDFUL MUSES community to share resources, connection & conversation on how to listen & create alongside your inner muse

You don't have a time problem, you have a commitment problem
IMG_1804.jpeg

This week, let's look at the C word.

This is the word that has made ALL the difference in whether I am prolific, productive or BEING the Artist & Muse (& Mama & Wife & Friend) I want to be

This is the word that helps me show up when I'm not 'feeling it'

This is the word that feels counter-intuitive to my natural rebel self & all the ways my Resistance wants me to fight for freedom

This is also the word that has helped me find my voice, find MORE freedom & MORE creative flow

C O M M I T M E N T

Let’s look into what motivates you to stay COMMITTED!

What pushes you to get out of bed every morning?

What helps you wake up and be ready for the day ahead?

What keeps you on track to be professional, passionate and creative?

Staying committed comes from doing what you LOVE and having a drive to move with your creative flow.

It’s something you DECIDE in a moment. AND it is also something you get to choose moment to moment, day to day of staying committed to the decision you made.

So, because having a commitment to your creative flow can be so important, you might be thinking “How do I maintain a passion for my art? My creativity?”

I like to say

“Finding a spark of joy can be the easiest way back to motivation, productivity, inspiration & hopefulness”

Being committed to your creative flow means maintaining activities in your life that allow a comfortable rhythm and routine.

Of finding that spark AND of taking action on what that sparked within you

A few ways to make sure you have a commitment to your creative flow can look like:

  1. Finding creative sparks: doing things that are different, out of your comfort zone or that you aren't used to. This helps you to look at usual routine tasks in a unique way, it also allows space for something I like to call “happy accidents”.

Are you making space for “mistakes” to happen so you see a new way forward? This is actually where you find your own style, process & voice. Where innovations & finding your unique flavour can happen

Are you cultivating your creative spark in your everyday?

  2. Make space for spontaneity: this can mean having intentional moments of boredom throughout the day…. Yep, intentional boredom!

Daydreaming. sitting in the void of discomfort & tension while trusting the process that inspiration and answers will come.
This makes space for you to listen to your Muse. Listen to God. Listen to your soul voice.

This space makes room for inspired flow to come in as well as the ebbs & natural pauses that creativity needs

Are you making space for your creativity to flow & ebb?

  3. Uplevelling: Trying not to get stuck in a rut, so, doing new things helps you connect ideas in new ways. It's similar to creative spark in that you get to use new ways of seeing to spark new ideas.

Which invites more flow of creative ideas. But this is also about going deeper.

Getting better skilled or diving beyond the shallow depths & seeing the treasures and wisdom beneath.

It's having a deeper conversation rather than a 'pass by the hallway to say hello' kind of difference.

Are you allowing your art to grow? Are you connecting to your work in a deeper way?

All of these things will work together to help you COMMIT to your creative flow and while they are awesome first steps to establishing your passion and commitment, let’s not forget the basics.

To stay committed you need discipline within yourself; giving your art the time & space to mature and show itself is so important, otherwise you’re just simply skimming the surface and jumping from style to style or project to project and never having any deeper conversations with the art.

Making sure you have a combination of discipline as well as creative sparks and spontaneity will quickly reveal that you can be the master of commitment to your own creative flow.

If you are looking for any more clarity on what to focus on NOW to connect deeper with your work & bring your art into the world -- if you're ready to COMMIT to the next level chapter of your art -- Schedule your free clarity call with me!

What are your anchors for a productive day?
IMG_0383.jpeg

When you don’t have the energy…

But you know you need to DO THE WORK

Your time is a precious thing, and whilst making the most of your day can be a little overwhelming.

It’s super important to remember that your creativity deserves as much prioritisation as other aspects of life that are important like family and career.

Whether you have just begun your creative journey in finding your passion in life or you are a creative process pro, it is essential that time is used to your advantage - not only so you can remain focussed throughout the day, but also so you can achieve everything you set out to do each day.

Don’t get me wrong, it is completely okay to run late, forget, miss a step or get a little messy… SOMETIMES (I’ve been guilty of that once or twice).

But managing your time and setting aside a portion of your day for each task you need to complete can make a huge difference between always staying on top of schedule or always catching up.

This week, I am making sure to keep my ‘anchors’ at the forefront of my mind as a way of staying on track and making the most of my time.

Remembering my anchors and choosing to exercise one or more of them daily (even if it’s 5 minutes) is one of the best ways, I have found, to stay grounded and on task especially when my day feels a little crazy.

If you aren't sure what your anchors are; here are some of mine that I rely on daily and find bring me peace amongst the chaos:

  • > MINDSET & MEDITATION: Journal & prayer: This is where I spend time connecting with God & my higher self. So I stay connected and clear on my purpose and vision for my life

  • > MONEY: check in & belief work. This is something I’m working on more this year! It’s vulnerable to face the emotional triggers that many of us have around money (especially when you put selling your art on top of that!)

  • > MAKING ART: Work on my current focused project to build my art, share my voice & grow my business. Sometimes this looks like painting. Sometimes it looks like writing posts like this. Other times it’s making the content for my courses. Taking photos of my art & a thousand other things that’s involved with being a professional Artist

  • > MARKETING & Sales: - Inviting my community into my art & creative world. Sometimes it’s in my social media posts. Or taking selfies & timelapses of my artwork. Always, I am focused on inviting you deeper into my world. Sales for me is about service! I know my art will be an experience beyond what just the amount of money is involved!

  • > MULTIPLY: this is about the behind the scenes work that helps me multiply my work (repurpose content, share my artwork, reach more people). This may look like ensuring my artwork is available for licensing. Or it’s outsourcing my content so that my words (& my art) has multiple chances to be felt and heard.

  • > MOVE: Moving my body. I confess, I am still very bad at this. But it’s on my list & somedays it’s 10 minutes of running around with the kids!

  • > ME TIME: getting alone time to think, play, unravel, hear my own thoughts. As a mama, as a creative, as an Artist & Muse? I need this SO MUCH. Creativity needs space to breathe and unravel. As a leader and mentor, I need space to hear my own thoughts and make space for inspired messages and ideas to drop in

  • > MUSE MENTORING: client work, engage with community, build relationships. This can be paid stuff for clients. This could be commenting and engaging with my community — actually being ‘social’ on social media.

  • > MAMA TIME: quality eyeball time. There is a difference between being in the same room as my kids and actually making eye contact (eyeball time!) with my full attention and presence. I know when my kids get extra moody and whingy — they need more mama eyeball time

I find the best time to remember your anchors is at the beginning of the day before you begin any work!

If you start your day with the questions:

At the end of the day, how do I want to feel? What do I need to get done in order to feel that?

You’d be surprised how much they motivate you to get the job done!

With so many ‘categories’ it’s very easy to get overwhelmed. I’ve had to allow and embrace that it may only be 5-10minutes.

Some days I may miss a couple anchors. I just make it up the next day. IT IS ALL OK

As long as I have taken a tiny step forward towards my desires and goals, I know it is all adding up in my favor!

I don’t have enough time to waste on feeling guilty and chasing perfection in ticking everything off my list!

Making sure you put equal time into your creative work & desires, as well as everything else in your life can feel intimidating

(I know as a mama that putting yourself first may feel IMPOSSIBLE some days)

So if you need any help or support on getting started - if you know you’re not giving your art the best chance to be better, bolder & feel confident about selling it — don’t hesitate to get in touch with me here to snap up a 1:1 call.

The trick is to have a strategic plan in place and find clarity on what ONE thing is holding you back & ONE thing you need to focus on NEXT. Not the 100 steps after, just the next one.

NEW YOU NEW MUSE
NewYouNewMuse_FBcvr.jpg

Let’s get re-connected to your Muse & creative flow + make art confidently & consistently from now on

Do you want support in choosing, setting up & preparing a strategic, creative project that will keep your MOMENTUM flowing in the next 12 months?

Get clear on your CALLING, COMMITMENT, COURAGE, CONNECTION & CREATING as the NEW MUSE that you are this yearInside NEW YOU NEW MUSE, you will select & set up a project that will strategically help you find more CONFIDENCE & CLARITY in your creative work.

With the mindset, habits, tools & action steps you'll need to go from dreaming to done (if you struggle with showing up consistently or finishing projects. THIS IS FOR YOU)

For all the goals & dreams that we have, there are so many underlying foundations that have been laid & built over time.

Yet we can easily forget.

So much can change in a year which changes the direction of our lives. (We’ve experienced this in 2020!)

A month can change the trajectory of our year.

And all of that happens with a decision made in an inspired moment!

We are all given the same 12 months yet some will achieve more than others

It takes focus & courage to create an amazing year — along with intentional planning & execution

I’ve built up these sequence of principles for the past few years to support me in achieving my goals & it keeps getting stronger and stronger each year that I do it

Time will pass regardless of what we do or not do. Whether you’re ready or not.

Let’s take our power back and direct the flow of our creative energy this year in the direction of our dreams!

This course isn’t just about making a plan — it’s about equipping us to face the hurdles, fears & uncomfortable tension that comes with stretching beyond our comfort zones.

It’s about walking with confidence despite the chaos that life can throw at us to make our big dreams come true!

I’m not here by luck. I’ve built up habits & systems. There is a way of thinking and believing I practice. Ways I do certain things, think & build my trust & belief in myself.

Ways I flow with my inspired creativity even in the busy chaos of life.

It’s the way I create a year that feels powerful & full of flow. Full of art making filled with meaning. The way I weave it with business & kids. The way I sell my art daily without feeling all salesy.

The way I find fun & play even while doing the work. The way I create & flow in my schedule even with all the interruptions that my season of little kids brings.

The way I find my creative voice & deepen my mastery over my craft.

This is how I begin my year (Or any time I want to create a powerful plan) to align with my desires & my vision.

The way I allow God to fill in the gaps with magic & declare partnership with the divine

I would love to help you create a powerful plan for your next 12 months!

Imagine:

You could have a body of work to showcase that you feel proud of

You could launch a creative business this year -- finding your perfect blend of making art you love AND art your people want to buy

You could get clear on your creative voice & make art with deeper meaning

You could be bolder & step up as a leader and professional Artist this year.

It all begins with the seeds we will plant inside NEW YOU NEW MUSE

  • This is where you'll learn to 'find the time'

  • This is where you'll understand how to 'stay motivated'

  • This is where you'll get the energy to 'do all the things' and still make the art you want to make & achieve your goals

When you don't have the energy to do the work but you know you need to

Ahh Muses! Lots of feels today!

Maybe it’s a delayed New Moon purging?

Or my body has had it with days of broken promises about having a bath / nap?

Or a bit of a wild beary mode (check out @soulmodes!)

I feel very tempted to hide under blankets + sleep forever.

IMG_2050.jpeg

I know I’m avoiding. Falling into old habits of numbing

Or maybe I just need to purge for the next breakthrough

Whatever it is, I’m so glad my brain has simple frameworks to hold onto.

I’m so glad I’ve allowed myself to embrace that I need a certain sense of “accomplishment” + my ambition isn’t to be dismissed

I’m so glad I still believe in my vision & still feeling called to my dreams (even if they feel a bit delusional right now)

I’m so glad that I’m at a place with my creative process that I may doubt my marketing & my ability to help other creatives... but I never doubt that my creativity & flow is available & waiting patiently for me.

So days like this where I want to stay paralysed while feeling guilty & still not being able to drag myself to “do the work”

I come back to my anchors

  • > MINDSET & MEDITATION: Journal & prayer

  • > MONEY: check in & belief work

  • > MAKING ART: work on my current focused project to build my art, share my voice & grow my business

  • > MARKETING & Sales: - inviting my community into my art & creative world

  • > MULTIPLY: behind the scenes work that helps me multiply my work (repurpose content, share my artwork, reach more people)

  • > MOVE: Move my body. I keep forgetting this!

  • > ME TIME: getting alone time to think, play, unravel, hear my own thoughts

  • > MUSE MENTORING: client work, engage with community, build relationships

I try to do one small thing for each of these each day — even if it’s 5 minutes.

Even if my ego keeps mocking me about how pathetic and insignificant it is. I know, if I can add a tiny step forward in each area - it feels like a good day.

Even with all the feels.

It’s how I choose courage

It’s how I choose progress

It’s how I DARE to take my art & creative work SERIOUSLY

What are your anchors?

Don’t you love a chaotic clarity download of insight and intuitive understanding to start your weekend?

I am still an artist.

A leader. A mentor. A creativity catalyst. A Muse Mama.

But I’m learning & realising & trying to embrace that these words aren’t quite enough, aren’t quite clear, aren’t quite the next level for me to stretch ALL of what I offer in my life’s work.

So I’m diving deep to find the words, the vision, the articulation of it all.

And calling in the people this is a HELL YES!

Here’s to the wild ride! Thank you for flowing with me!

✨You know you’re creative✨
6C00FE25-3D9A-4EB6-951F-528468255691.jpeg

✨You know you’re creative✨
You know you have a thing to bring to life

Not just a thing but like really A THING that has been calling you to be created
or even just to finally bring it to the next level.

But life tells you otherwise
The world says it’s too hard
You’re not good enough yet
You see all these awesome creatives online, at exhibits, selling their art and you’re SURE they are more amazing then you
You’re too busy
You don’t want your kids, your relationships, your job to suffer

Basically all the things that says you’re not perfect yet so you’re not allowed to DARE to take that thing seriously.

How did I paint more in the first year of my babies life...while also juggling kinder runs with a preschooler?

How did I write a booklet and run 2 online courses while pregnant & painting for an exhibition?

How does anyone really? Do THE thing while doing all the other things?

I know that it isn’t in saying: I don’t know how she does it!

And say: if she can maybe I can too

It’s not in saying: I don’t think I can on top of everything else...

And say: I truly want this...how can I work everything else around this?

Don’t dismiss yourself before even asking your amazing creative self HOW YOU are going to do it

Because you are
Because you can
Because if you really truly want it, there IS a way for you to do it.

🌟Also, don’t do it alone!🌟

I didn’t do all I have done (plus there is so much more I want to do!) by doing it all alone.

I leaned into my village of family & friends (and got over my baggage around asking for help)

I invested in help around the house (and got over the mum guilt that served nobody)

I invested in coaches and masterminds - and found my community which led to courage to DARE to DREAM. It led to clarity of MY goals and finding MY flavour of doing ALL the things.
Only because I didn’t rely on my own ‘motivation’ or my feelings.

As an artist I know I don’t rely on inspiration to strike, but that it will come when I invest the time & energy to show up anyway

It’s why I wanted to give back all my hard earned experience and offer 1:1 mentoring for Muse Mamas

You’re creative. You’re ambitious. You have a next chapter, a next level, A THING to bring into the world.
And you still want to weave your mamahood & life with your creativity. And your creativity into your relationships and work.
That makes you a Muse Mama

I know that sometimes it was a simple message to my coach to re-center myself when I was drowning in the chaos of my inner critic.
All I needed was a venting session with my mastermind to clear out what was MY voice and those of other people’s expectations

All I needed was to be connected to the energy and access other Muses.
Who understood that in order to move forward, we had to find our own flavour AND embrace imperfection. Who understood that sometimes I just needed a reminder I WAS CAPABLE. Despite fear saying otherwise.

Do you need that community?
Do you desire that connection?
Do you wish to finally DARE to actually DO what you DREAM?
However big, however small.

Then I want to invite you into my

💖💖 YOU’VE GOT THIS 💖💖
8C733049-271D-4738-87A1-129F67574559.jpeg

💖💖 YOU’VE GOT THIS 💖💖
When the voice says “who are you to think you can do this?!”
You can. You will. You’ve got this
🔥
When that voice is inside your head and knows the right button to push and fears to showcase.
You’re not alone. You’ve got this
🔥
When that voice is outside your head and from those who love you and “just want the best for you”
Say fuck off if you need to. Change the subject if that’s more in alignment. (Sometimes the same tactics works whether the voices are inside or outside your head)
YOUR DREAMS ARE what is best for you.
You’re a grown ass adult and YOU WILL work it out even when you fail.
You’ve got this

Summon your inner warrior
Summon your inner sage
Summon your inner mother and father and lovers and soulmate.
Summon your inner stubborn child.
And step forward.
Step up.
Shine that light.

You can.
You will.
You’ve got this.
💖
p.s ✍🏻My Deliberate Doodles Online Workshop was created for the part of you that yearned for CONNECTION to that inner creative.
That inner light that sees & knows YOU’VE GOT THIS

It was created to show you a different way of being more present and MINDFUL with your thoughts and actions.

So you can stay connected to your inner wisdom.
To finish that project that keeps calling you.
To feel in more control of your life instead of mindlessly drifting along.
To dare to take that inner dream seriously.

If you need that permission?
⚡️⚡️Here it is!⚡️⚡️

Don’t just silently scroll & lurk & watch in the shadows! It’s one thing to be inspired and click ‘like’ on someone else’s art — it’s another to actually doing your own.

Commit to doing something about it.
Step forward. Step up.
Get that pen on paper!

🙏🏻And don’t do it alone - you are who you surround yourself with.

When you’re surrounded by other creatives — that will keep you connected to your creativity and you’re more likely to actually CREATE!

This Deliberate Doodles online workshop was born to share my process AND ALSO CREATE THE SPACE FOR YOU TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT CALLING.
✍🏻
It's just dressed very simply in black & white, simple pen and paper.
🔥
Don't underestimate the power of that simplicity!

🌟🌟 TEN THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME LAST WEEKEND 🌟🌟
BF78D18F-4E8A-4186-B060-C346E2672E3C 2.jpeg

🌟🌟 TEN THINGS THAT INSPIRED ME LAST WEEKEND 🌟🌟

1) Sunshiney days - the air and sky always feels clearer after a massive storm (Sydney has been raining & last week had the biggest storm)

2) wearing this red jumpsuit reminded me that feeling good in my clothes helps me feel good in my skin which helps my brain see more beauty everywhere else

3) Giant trees at beautiful parks as a gorgeous wedding venue

4) Many moments of quiet - thanks to a kid-free weekend to connect emotional & inspired thoughts.

5) “Bad luck” circumstances that turned out all fine thanks to “good luck”. It’s all in the perspective

6) FaceTiming my girls and hearing their voices talking over each other to tell me all the things

7) The pattern of the terrazzo tile floor at the Queen Victoria Building

8)Reminiscing stories of the time we lived in Sydney for a year

9) The texture & pattern of the airport carpet

10) Dancing all night at a friend’s wedding with the best DJ I’ve witnessed in a long time

✨✨What inspired you this weekend?✨✨

I know that if I expect it, look for it & allow for it AND acknowledge it.

I always find it.

Use all your senses.
Use your heart, mind, body & soul.
Past, present & future.

Gather all the big and little things,
Gather all that strike your curiosity,
that tickles your fancy,
that makes you feel good.

That’s where all the colours of inspiration are waiting for you to gather into your creative palette to play with!

GRATITUDE
53886113_2298106570241821_4590503956983054336_n.jpg

🌟🌟 GRATITUDE 🌟🌟

It’s cliche
It’s oversaid
It’s become so ‘done’ that we ignore it or worse, gloss over it

BUT PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE

Even when I was tired
Even when it was almost 1am and I had been on my feet for 8 hours straight - dehydrated - hungry - exhausted... I still made it a priority to write out a grateful list in my journal

Hands down - it was the EASIEST way for me to tap back into a higher vibe/ energy/ happy juju state.

Being tired, overwhelmed & too stimulated from so much talking for an introvert - it’s too easy to start seeing the negative, the flaws, the hurdles and pain.
(4 days of being an exhibitor at an art fair is both physically & mentally & emotionally taxing)

Plus technically I had only sold one painting (each day I did) but it would be so easy to be like “I ONLY sold one! 😭” vs “OMG I SOLD ONE! 🥳”

Gratitude is like the muggle way back to that childlike wonder and energy of LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL AND I AM SO BLESSED.
AND
everything IS WORKING PERFECTLY for ME!

I choose joy while getting hit with rejection (again)

I choose blessings while nursing wounds

I choose dancing & celebration while waiting for results

I choose happiness while embracing all the ugly, messy, chaos, overwhelm

I choose faith while facing the giant gap between me & my dream

I choose trust while navigating the fog

I know it’s simple to say
I know it’s harder to do - that’s why it’s a practice.
It’s a daily choice, a daily choosing to come back to the space you want to play in.

What do you choose?

💖

Are you embarking on a new creative chapter?
Finally going to unleash your creative expression?
Finally going to go to the next level in your creative work?
Finally start an Instagram account? Write that book? Sell your work for the first time? Exhibit your art for real?

I know from experience that doing it alone is the lonely, painfully hard & long way.

I wouldn’t change much but I do wish I got help, guidance & connected with my mentors earlier - and if you’re like me, going to a class or doing a whole course feels too distant & location specific.

Sometimes all you need is a little boost & sage perspective in your pocket to shortcut your way to flow & productivity.

So I am SO EXCITED to offer
